Motto: Queer Pride, Happy Pride
Say that you¡¯re happy.
Feel it. Don¡¯t be afraid to say it. Proudly
say, ¡°I¡¯m happy because I¡¯m queer and I have
a right to be happy.¡±
Even though the world insistently
labels us sexual minorities as ¡°different,¡±
makes discrimination an everyday practice, and
justifies its own ignorance and prejudice in
the name of ¡°custom¡± and the ¡°majority,¡± we
now know for sure that human dignity, worth,
and happiness are not privileges requiring someone
else¡¯s permission.
Article 10 of the Korean Constitution
says, ¡°All citizens are assured of human worth
and dignity and have the right to pursue happiness.¡±
We don¡¯t demand to be happier than others out
of greed or to be the same as others out of
envy. Our pride stems from our very existence
and our self-confident happiness begins with
a recognition of our own dignity and worth.
The KQCF Mujigae 2006 is a
happy adventure, for it seeks to discover a
wider world by dismantling the wall of this
world, which forces conformity on us all. We
must now fully sense, enjoy, and share our queer
happiness and rights.
So, are you ready? Ready for
happiness?you¡¯re the truly proud queer.
¡Ü Purpose
Selected by unanimous agreement, ¡°Queer pride,
happy pride!¡± is the motto of Mujigae 2006.
The KQCF wants to proclaim that we queers are
happy precisely because happiness is a given
right that we must proudly exercise.
Some bemoan that, unless the
world is turned upside down and everyone becomes
equal and all discrimination and oppression
disappear, living as queers in this country
will continue to be painfully difficult. The
KQCF, however, does not simply sit and wait
for that day when it will be OK for queer folks
to be happy, for we believe that our happiness
are is not a privilege requiring someone else¡¯s
permission.
Mujigae 2006 has been prepared
as an arena where queer folks can freely express,
enjoy, and share their dignity and joy as queers.
The lucky, seventh parade will fill the streets
of Seoul with the happy motion of queers. The
refreshingly new queer parties will continue
the exhilaration of the street parade simultaneously
in Jongro, Itaewon, and Sincheon. The scope
of the open forum has been widened to be even
more inclusive. Better each year, the queer
film festival boasts a delectable selection
of choice works.
It¡¯s not important whether
happiness or pride comes first. Mujigae 2006
fervently wishes for only one thing: YOUR happiness.
We strongly hope that you will be happier even
by an inch precisely because you are queer.
Even though they sadden us at times, the ignorance
and prejudice of Korean society can never erase
the happiness within our queer hearts. For we
will continue to fight with our proud happiness,
peacefully¡¦!
Find your happiness at the
KQCF Mujigae 2006!
